        Topic:      The Simple Past Tense (practice class)

Aim: The students recognize sequence of events in a reading passage.

Call on students to remind simple past verbs, we have studied in previous classes. Teacher says the verb – and students say past forms..

The explain students in English we have regular and irregular verbs.

Then students make differences between the irregular and regular

verbs

practice changing ideas from present to past form..

1.     She eats fruits and vegetables

2.     We play soccer with our friends

3.     He buys a chocolate to her

4.     I sleep at 10 pm

5.     I don’t go to the gym

then students work in pair to complete the sentences with the correct past form.

Answers: was, defended, did not like, killed, lived, walked, prayed, had, had


Read the story through as many times as necessary, identifying new vocabulary.

Example: The Headless Priest

During colonial times there ________ a priest who ________ the rights of the Indians. The Spanish conquerors ________ his politics, so they ________ him by cutting off his head. But his ghost ________. He ________ the streets every night, going from church to church. He ________without stopping. He ________ no head, but he ________ rosary hanging from his neck and a cord around his waist. People say that the headless priest still walks at night praying for eternal peace. Watch out for this headless priest during Holy Week, when his dark figure appears today.

 

Ending activities

Check with students their answers and verify they have completed well all the exercises.

Homework

Using the past form of the verbs write five sentences about your last vacation..










Aim: The student paraphrases or  summarizes the main idea of selected reading

Initial activities

Review the topic about simple past tense questions. Here it can be played jeopardy

Call on students to name what Nicaraguan myths and legends they know.

Then brainstorm ideas about them

Then students familiarize with some myths and legends by Reading and matching with the correct.


Then review some simple regular past verbs in English

 Groupwork of 3 students.

 Reading comprehension

Provide students a Legend of Nicaragua. Then they answer the questions.

 Where is the story from?                                * When does the story take place?

* Who is the story about?                               * What happened?

* Do you like the story?

Students share the questions by reading them aloud.

 

Ending activities

Students finally think about these questions  agree an answer.

What did you like from the story?

Do you know any similar story? If so, which one?

What is the message of the story?

Make a drawing that represent the story.

Evaluation:

Ask students questions at random to verify the comprehend the whole story.

Verify students appropriate of the vocabulary, and grammar context.
